The Austin Air Allergy Machine Air Purifier is specifically designed for people with asthma and allergies. This unit is the only air purifier on the market to utilize a HEGA (High Efficiency Gas Absorption) filter in an air purifier. Originally developed by the British military for use against chemical warfare, the Austin Air company is the only air cleaner manufacturer to use this highly effective filter. The Austin Air Allergy Machine utilizes a HEGA filter which is made from a military grade carbon cloth for removing odors and gases. This filter combines the carbon cloth with an outer HEPA filter that traps airborne particles, including dirt, lint, and hair. Between these two filters, the smallest of airborne particles and chemical gas contaminants in indoor air are efficiently removed. These filters also offer a 5 year life expectancy when used under normal household conditions.

The Allergy Machine from Austin Air offers a progressive filtering system with four stages. In stage one, the large particle pre-filter removes particles easily seen by the human eye including dust, hair, and pet dander. Stage two of filtration is the medium particle pre-filter which removes small to medium sized particles including molds, spores and pollens. Stage three is where the HEPA filtration comes into place, with 60 square feet of certified HEPA filter media removes 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 microns. Finally, stage 4 utilizes the activated military carbon cloth to remove gases, chemicals, and odors including formaldehyde and ammonia.
